Donya Japanese Cuisine 丼屋 – Affordable Japanese Rice Bowl

Donya serves Japanese Donburi, a Japanese rice bowl at affordable prices in the heartland of Toa Payoh and Bugis.

We visited the Bugis outlet, which is located right behind Bugis+, within the row of coffee shops directly opposite the taxi stand. You can find other holiao in those coffee shops too.

Donya Japanese Cuisine 丼屋

Tried their Chef’s Recommendations. Every Donburi comes with bowl of miso soup, which was just regular miso soup. Nothing special.

Chicken Teriyaki Don

$6.80 for this bowl of Chicken Teriyaki Don. Good amount of chicken slices, covered with Teriyaki sauce.

Salmon Mentai Don

$8.80 Salmon Mentai Don
At $8.80, this bowl of Salmon Mentai Don is actually not bad, and the mentaiko sauce given was generous, covering the salmon slices. The salmon skin was crispy, the meat was tender, which goes really with the Mentaiko sauce. Personally, the Salmon Mentai Don is my favourite.

Chicken Katsu Curry Don

$6.80 Chicken Katsu Curry Don
The chicken was tender and the batter wasn’t too thick. The best thing about the curry is that it comes with carrots and potatoes, which is better than your standard curry sauce.

Unagi Tama Don

$8.80 Unagi Tama Don
The unagi could be better. Luckily, the omelette and caramelised onions saved this bowl of don.

Donya Maki

$5.80 Donya Maki
The presentation of their signature Maki looks good. Their maki is cut into 4 pieces, and comes drizzled with their Donya sauce.
It looks and tastes like a california maki roll, just that their Donya sauce makes it taste a little different. Great dish to share with friends.

Overall the price is reasonable for Japanese food in a coffee shop. Every food item is not more than $10. If I am craving for Japanese food and I happened to be around the area, I would try the food again.

All in all, considering the price, I think it is worth it if you want a quick Japanese Don fix.
